STORY TIME!!!!!

DFWMetroplexMommy is under construction.  Expect a more organized structure and a few more places to go very soon!

Story Time information listed below

READING to your children is perhaps one of the most important activities that you can do to enhance your child's ability to learn and succeed in school.   I love the Library Adventurer's top 10 reasons why you should go to story time, take a look.  What I learned from going to the local library's story time is that you do not have to read to your child in any traditional sense.  You can incorporate songs, or sing the book to him, as many of them follow a sort of tempo anyway. And don't think your child has to sit down and pay perfect attention to the story.  My son uses me as a jungle gym at times when I am reading to him.  Other times he is engaged with the story and we even have time to go over the names of what he is seeing in the pictures. I like to incorporate the techniques we use in Story Time classes at home, like singing songs, using musical instruments, (like shake the rattle when we turn a page or to the rhythm of the story), use puppets or stuffed animals to 'tell' the child the story , (works well to engage them if they seem distracted), and I also learned that you can break out a story time anywhere.  I have read some of the books so many times to my son that I know them by heart!  I can just recite them, say, if I am driving, we are in line at the grocery store, whatever. Making reading time fun allows both of you to have fun with it.  I certainly suggest going to a local story time, whether in a bookstore, library, park (Klyde Warren has story times), anywhere.  If you can, certainly try to go to several different story times, as they are all structured so differently and each one has a different technique.

Some libraries require registration, others allow anyone and everyone.  Many story times are structured to certain age groups, meaning that some libraries will have several different story times.  I have compiled a list of local libraries in the DFW area and their known story times.  Enjoy!!!

***Make sure to check the library website, as some story times are not available at all times.  There may be certain days, weeks or even months that it is not available.  Also, times and days may change.  This BLOG is current as of 9/23/13.

Denton and Collin Counties info will be available in spreadsheet form soon, links available for now.  This seriously takes forever to do ;)
